Synopsis

The practice of physical activity helps prevent disease and promotes health and well-being, with effects on human functionality and physical autonomy. On the other hand, sleep disorders in children, often not spontaneously reported by parents, have implications for learning, behaviour, mood, obesity, growth, and the quality of life of families.

This book presents the physical activity and sleep habits of primary school children in Évora, based on a study carried out between the school year 2018/19 and the school year 2021/22, which collected relevant information about the daily life of children, their household, their parents, physical activity and sleep habits and possible sleep problems.

The aim of this dissemination is to contribute to literacy in this area, through the presentation of the analysis of the collected data, thus seeking to raise awareness among parents, teachers, paediatricians, and family doctors, for early diagnosis and prevention, with greater investment in Health Education actions. On the other hand, these results allow a scientific basis for the design of intervention lines and awareness campaigns among parents and carers to mitigate and prevent sleep problems in children and to increase the prevalence of physical activity and play in children of this age group.
