Synopsis

This book constitutes the first volume of a pedagogical collection directed to the student of Veterinary Medicine and, in particular, to the understanding of the Anatomy/Morphology of animals of veterinary interest.

If it is correct that the morphology of the animal organism remains, in a way, unchanged in its fundamental concepts and in the general description of systems and apparatus, it is also true that students have a certain reluctance and difficulty in their learning. For them, descriptive morphology is just that, a complex and too vast set of concepts and terms. This problem is aggravated insofar as any curricular unit of Anatomy is taught in the first semesters of the Integrated Master's in Veterinary Medicine.

Bearing this situation in mind, allied to years of teaching Anatomy, the idea of a small pedagogical collection, accessible to all, that integrates the general terminology of each system and apparatus, the fundamental concepts and that is complemented either with real images of osteology and dissection or with laboratory protocols for student guidance. Each volume will address an anatomical region, with teaching in “a spiral” so that the student understands each part and integrates it into the animal as a whole. Each volume, whenever appropriate, will also address some anatomical curiosities and focus on the clinical importance of certain structures, rather than a simple exhaustive description of them, in an attempt that the students better understand the skills that they need for a professional performance.

In our opinion, this type of Anatomy manual associated with real subtitled images, obtained during practical classes, as opposed to atlas and virtual models, and complemented with laboratory guidance protocols can constitute a primordial tool for the beginning students, at the same time that begins to train them for the future hands on reality.
